just hatred...
in the last two months, i’ve said i don’t have a problem with racism about three times, and it always came off like the worst thing to say. but after today’s results, i’m doubling down on it. what we call racism isn’t really about skin color - it’s just narcissism, hatred, and that 'je suis mieux que toi' perfume that too many people wear proudly. and if that’s what racism is, then africa, especially cameroon, has its own brand of it — ten times worse.
don’t get me wrong, i have a problem with narcissists. but after witnessing how the cameroon system works, it’s hard not to see the same mindset at play. look at cameroon - a small group of people have decided that power belongs to them forever. they make decisions that benefit only their circle, sometimes not even their own children.
people in the north are kept intentionally undereducated. people in the northwest and southwest are left in crisis while others profit off their pain. and we’re told not to complain - just to fight each other over crumbs. that’s structural oppression, not different from apartheid, just wearing a different face.
the only real difference between what’s happening here and what happened in apartheid south africa might just be skin color. in both cases, people are kept powerless by design. here, if you protest, you get shot. if you speak, you disappear. and the system keeps everyone distracted - with xenophobia, regional hate, class divides — anything to bury the real issue.
so when we talk about racism, let’s not act like it’s a “white man thing.” the same poison runs deep in our own systems. maybe the first step to fixing it is realizing we’ve become the very thing we claim to hate.
