Starlink in Cameroon, what you need to know.

As we all know, Starlink isn’t officially operational in Cameroon yet. Our leaders seem dedicated to making sure we are always the last to taste anything good, dragging their feet on licensing while we suffer through snail-speed internet. But because we are Cameroonians, we always find a way. You’ve probably considered buying a kit from a dealer, activating it in another country, and enabling the roaming option. Before you drop that cash, here is the real tea on what you are getting into.

First off, Starlink has been pretty generous so far by not strictly implementing that 2-3 month roaming rule where you have to go back to the original country. It’s dope for now, but keep in mind they fit change anytime oh and start enforcing it; so don't get too comfortable. Also, that monthly subscription is not exactly cheap. If you want your wallet to breathe, you have to pick the right country. Don’t go and register in Germany or some expensive European country. Do your research and pick a country where the price in XAF won't be the same money you were supposed to use to buy your babe’s hair this December.

Another thing you should know is that these kits actually get bad more often than you’d expect. The good news is that Starlink is quite generous with maintenance and they usually do it for free. But here is the catch: your registered address needs to be somewhere you can actually receive the replacement parts. Starlink usually provides a return voucher for DHL, but if you use a South American country, shipping a spoiled part back there will cost you way too much time and extra stress. Think wisely when choosing your "home" country.

You also need to remember that you are playing a high-stakes game. At any moment, the government can crack down on these "illegal" kits or force Starlink to block active roaming in Cameroon. You are a gambler here, and the house always has an advantage. If the plug gets pulled tomorrow, just know that I warned you.

The good news is that rumors say we are finally getting close to an official launch. If you can’t afford the risk or the heavy price tag of a personal kit right now, the best move is to look for a neighbor or a friend who already has one and share the connection (and the bill).

From this article, it shows that we are closer than ever before. https://ngano.online/l/390435569505210368
